" We advise the passing of James Randell Elkington ( 34 ), an alumni
of CCNZ who many of you will know, and for you older ones, he was a grandson
of "Uncle Jim". He leaves behind his sweetheart Ingrid nee Keen
(daughter of Glen Keen) and their two boys.
James suffered a massive brain haemorrhage while at work in Auckland and
was rushed to Auckland hospital where, despite all odds and medical expertise,
he fought back and was able to spend another week with his family unfortunately
he had another bleed and passed away on Thursday 29th January. He was
diagnosed as having Moyamoya disease which is very rare. He didn't know
he had it, but probably had it for most of his life. He probably wouldn't
have lived his life any differently than he did because of his unique
zest for life. He was happiest amongst friends and family.
James was laid to rest at Newstead Cemetery in Hamilton next to his mother,
Maria (wife of Chiefy) who had passed away only seven months previously.
The service was held at the Glenview Stake Centre and was attended by
approx 1,250 people with standing room only. During the tangi many tributes
were given because of his inumerable acts of service, his sense of humour
and his genuine love of people. A fitting tribute to a very " special
guy".
